Rigmera
Project Overview
Since I moved out of my parent's apartment and started making my own meals, I constantly run into the same problem when shopping for groceries. Forgetting one or two items and having to make the choice of either driving all the way back to the store or just going without those items for the time being. I could order them thru a delivery service but they’re usually costly due to delivery fees. Which is especially trivial when an item costs only a few dollars.
My solution is a refrigerator food tracking device called Rigmera. A device that scans your food periodically to help you keep track of groceries or other items in your fridge. You can modify the scanned items if any mistakes are made, add expiration dates and also send all recorded information to your phone for an automatic grocery list.
I started with a 10 X 10 sketch session for brainstorming and main features. Once I settled on a design I quickly moved to a paper prototype which I tested on both of my roommates. Both understood some of the basic concepts but I need to highlight the useable buttons and make the functionalities seamless. This was the main focus of my physical prototype where I then use Figma and another random object to make my prototype seem more real. Again I tested with my roommates and they had a better understanding but the lack of functionality and missing feature held it back from being a fully realized prototype.
10 X 10 sketches
Made to consolidate ideas for my design and functionality when constructing prototypes. The first 10 sketches explored different designs and functionality. The second 10 were based on a favorite design from one of the first. These expanded on my favorite designs and possible modifications.
Storyboard (without Rigmera)
Made to show the frusration that Rigmera aims to solve
Storyboard (Rigmera)
Shows the convenice Rigmera creates when used properly.
Prototypes
Both prototypes show the core functionalities of Rigmera. The paper prototype focuses more on displaying the current status of the fridge and updating data while the physical prototype adds on more noticeable buttons and screen changes
